Located in the so-called “Barrière du Lot” in the Martres-de-Veyre district, the “Chaumes d’Allier” funerary area consists of a burial site which was excavated between 1851 and 1923. The exceptional state of preservation of the organic remains which were unearthed there (hair, coffins, pieces of clothing, funerary furniture) granted the site its world-wide reputation although, paradoxically, it remained somewhat overlooked as a whole. The aim of this thesis is to study the processes of emergence, structuring and mutation of an ancient urban network from the end of the Protohistory to the beginning of the Middle Ages in a micro-region located on the edge of the ancient éduens, lingons and séquanes territories, the Saône Valley. This area is characterized by a density of Gallo-Roman small towns with an amount and a high quality of data unequalled in Gaul, as a result of ancient and recent research. This report presents the results of a second series of excavations carried out between the oppidum of Boviolles and the ancient city of Nasium. It affects an occupation dated between La Tène D2 and the beginning of the augustean period, characterized by a causeway linking the two entities, a level delivering traces of artisanal activities, wells and a cooking kiln. This occupation is also characterized by the presence of the Roman army embodied in many militaria. This presence is central to the issue of the development of the ancient settlement of Nasium.

Nasium : Sondage archéologique à Saint-Amand-sur-Ornain " Le Cul de Breuil "

Ce rapport de fouille présente les résultats d'un sondage archéologique mené au cœur du site de Nasium, à l'interface entre l'oppidum celtique et l'agglomération antique. Le système de voirie qui relie ces deux , dans le prolongement d'une des portes principales de l'oppidum, a été ainsi révélé, associé à des structures à caractère funéraire ou rituel. La chronologie de ces vestiges, centrée sur les dernières décennies du Ier siècle avant J.-C., correspond à la période durant laquelle l'oppidum est abandonné au profit de la plaine alluviale de l'Ornain. Depuis les années 1980, l'étude du fait urbain antique est l'une des questions les plus étudiée sur le territoire des dix départements formant le centre-est de la France. Le développement d'un programme collectif de recherche sur ce thème en 2012 a permis d'en dresser un nouvel inventaire et de rassembler une donnée souvent disparate. Ces travaux ont plus particulièrement porté attention aux phases initiales de mise en place du réseau urbain, en tentant, à l'aide de ces données et de nouvelles prospections, de disposer d'une vision évolutive des sites les plus marquants.
